TAHLEQUAH, Okla — U.S. Attorney General William Barr made a stop in Tahlequah Wednesday to tell tribal leaders that more resources are on the way after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on jurisdiction in the McGirt case.
“We are pleased today that he announced $7.6 million to the Cherokee Nation,” said Cherokee Nation Chief Chuck Hoskins Jr. “That’s significant. We are pleased that he announced that there would be more attorneys embedded.”
Barr promised more manpower and federal aid to help Oklahoma tribes with the dramatic increase in caseload.
Chief Hoskins says Cherokee Nation has already been working on beefing up the police force.
