BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — A Broken Arrow family says they don’t know what they’d do without St. Jude.

Three years ago, Michelle Stiger noticed that her six-year-old son Grayson was sick. “I took him to the doctor and he was diagnosed with everything. The flu, strep, the flu again, strep again,” said Stiger.

This went on for several months. They were trying to keep a journal of his symptoms, including headaches. At first, Stiger thought it was migraines.

But on the first day of spring break in 2019, Grayson felt too sick to get off the couch. He felt too week to attend the RSU baseball camp he had been looking forward to for months.

Stiger got an MRI scheduled for Grayson the next week. That same day, he was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Grayson was rushed to the pediatric ICU, where he said for four days before a six hour brain surgery.

“It was very quick because of how dangerous the situation was. They said they got the tumor out, but they’re still finding bad cells in his brain. So they are going to have to take out more brain tissue. I just remember thinking what does this mean, what are they taking out? That was pretty terrifying,” said Stiger.

Thankfully, Grayson bounced back quickly after surgery. Just weeks later, he was back on the baseball field. “Nobody would ever imagine that he had brain cancer. No, no, if you look at him, other than right after a haircut, you can see his scar,” said Stiger.

Not only did St. Jude save Grayson’s life, but his family isn’t buried in medical debt.

Grayson gets an MRI once a year to checkup on things. He’s a happy, healthy 9-year-old in the third grade.
