Grove Choir students spread love through ‘sing-a-grams’

The Grove High School Choir, The Showstoppers, has been spreading a little love to the community on Valentine’s Day by surprising people with sing-a-grams.

The group has been performing special songs for people and raising money for their choir program.

Emma White, 89, has been married for 69 years. Her husband Roger surprised her with a special song on Valentine’s Day, sung by the choir.

“Oh my heavens! This is the best Valentine’s I’ve ever had that I can remember, really,” White said.

Ranging in ages 14 to 18, the 22 singers in the choir perform around Grove.

“We just spread out to the community, so it’s banks, it’s restaurants, it’s whoever wants one. We just go wherever they want us to go,” said Caleb Perkins, a member of the choir.

Perkins said it feels really heartwarming to see someone feel so loved.

“You get to come in and surprise them and really make them a part of something that we do,” Perkins said. “It’s really cool to just get to watch that, that click, where they knew like, ‘Wow someone really cares about me.’”

They were booked for 37 different sing-a-grams, all over town, the activity directors at Grandwood Assisted Living said it was emotional.

“I dropped a few tears,” said Tina Bradshaw, assistant activity director at Grandwood. “It’s just really great to see the smiles on their faces.”

The grams help raise money for their choir program so they can buy equipment and travel to competitions throughout the year

They also said it’s great to get out into the community.

Andre Jones, the Showstoppers choir director, said it brings the choir together and bonds them.

“To work together as a team, as a group, and be unified and to go out in the community, that is the most important thing,” Jones said. “We all want to be unified, we all want love, we all want to be doing this life together and, it’s just, music is so uplifting”
