TULSA, Okla. — A couple started an online petition to bring a WinCo Foods grocery store to north Tulsa.
Tyler Robinson and Lindsey Robinson-Rising just moved to Tulsa from Oregon. Like many, they love WinCo Foods, but it’s about 25 minutes from their house.
“In this area, it’s really hard to get fresh produce and good quality food,” said Tyler.
Lindsey grew up in Tulsa, so when she moved back, she was disappointed with some of the things she discovered.
Lindsey said, “In south Tulsa, people have options and people have choices. Why don’t we?”
She wants her kids to grow up with healthy options. “If they’re getting all their nourishment from QuikTrip, who’s that fair too?”
That is why this couple started an online petition, asking for another WinCo Foods to open in the northwest Tulsa region.
The petition is on Change.org.
“Gas money and everything, it’s too much. We live in a food desert and that should not be,” said Tyler.
The Robinsons did acknowledge Oasis Fresh Market. This is a grocery store that opened in north Tulsa this year to combat the issues they’re talking about.
“Oasis is a start. It’s a beacon in this town. But the problem is, Oasis is having to service a huge region,” said Lindsey. “It’s one grocery store. They don’t have all the resources they need.”
They’re hoping for more change and development in a place they love, as the new year soon begins.
