Construction of outlet mall in Jenks still on hold

JENKS, Okla. — Construction on an outlet mall in Jenks, just south of the Creek Turnpike, is still on hold.

Tulsa Premium Outlets LLC, which is part of the Simon Property Group, temporarily stopped construction two years ago due to COVID-19, but there’s been no word on when it will resume.

Set on about 50 acres, once completed the mall will have around 80 stores spanning 325 thousand square feet.

A sign is posted on the property that says the project will be ready in spring of 2021, a year too late, and false advertisement for drivers on the turnpike.

Although no construction is happening, two cars are parked on the site monitoring the property.

Work began on the much anticipated outlet mall in March 2020.

At the time, Simon Property Group CEO Simon Yoluf told FOX23 they specialize in outlet malls like the one planned in Jenks.

“We go into markets such as Jenks, a million shoppers in 45-mile radius is pretty much what we know how to do best,” said Yoluf in 2020.

FOX23 contacted Simon Property Group for an update on the project, and did not hear back.

Jenks Mayor Cory Box told FOX23 in January that supply chain issues have put the project on pause, and he’s confident the mall will come eventually.

“What they have committed to us is that they remain very, very optimistic that they will have shovels in the ground and be doing something in 2022,” said Box.

Last reported, the construction of the mall is supposed to bring 400 jobs to the area, and once completed the mall itself will bring 800 full-time and part-time jobs combined.
