City of Tulsa to install metal detectors in city hall

TULSA, Okla. — City of Tulsa confirmed to FOX23 Tuesday afternoon that they plan to install metal detectors in Tulsa City Hall in 2023.

Carson Colvin with the City of Tulsa said the metal detectors will be installed by the first quarter of next year, and the metal detectors are similar to the ones at the Tulsa Municipal Court.

Colvin also said that visitors were required to pass through metal detectors if they planned to attend Tulsa City Council meetings.

“The only difference between the public meetings and City Council meetings and these metal detectors is that these will be used on a daily basis for visitors to Tulsa City Hall,” Colvin explained.

When visitors enter Tulsa City Hall, there is already a security process, Colvin explained, but the metal detectors will add another layer to the security process.

This addition is one Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum previously pushed for in the wake of the shooting at the Saint Francis Natalie Medical Building in June.
