Boston bombing amputees getting free prosthetics

Some of the people who lost limbs in the bombing aren’t covered by insurance and those who are may still not be competely covered.
But they won’t have to worry about buying those expensive prosthetics now that a group has come forward to help.
The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association are promising to provide artificial limbs and other services for some of the amputation victims.
A spokesman for the group told Reuters "we want to ensure that, in the midst of this horrific tragedy, these individuals are not further traumatized by the harsh and unreasonable limits that are present in all too many health insurance policies."
The prosthetics cost between $8,000 and $60,000 and USA Today says some insurance policies won’t pay over $5,000.
Even more dramatic is the cost of an artificial limb over a lifetime. Estimates run as high as a half million dollars.
The AOPA won’t be helping with lifetime costs but there is a separate fund set up for other expenses and it already has $27 million in donations.
