The 44th annual 2023 Martin Luther King, Jr. downtown Tulsa parade

TULSA, Okla. — Thousands lined the streets for the 44th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in downtown Tulsa.

“We come every year to support the Martin Luther King parade,” said Dorothy Chase.

“We’ve been here every year,” said Tiron Pete.

The theme for the 2023 parade was “We Are Stronger When Working Together.”

“To see everybody get together, have a good time and celebrate what he has done for us,” said Chase.

“It matters a lot,” said Chase.

“I love it because you know everyone gets together no matter what race, no matter what you know. I just love it because everybody’s in it and it’s peaceful,” Pete said.

Thousands gathered to honor a legacy and pass along what Dr. King stood for, to the next generation.

“He stands for our freedom,” said a group of school-aged children.

“Today means freedom. Freedom from the past, and also commemorating the future because there is still work to be done,” said Betty Ferguson.
