11-year-old boy safe after alleged kidnapping, armed robbery in south Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa police are investigating after an alleged armed robbery and possible kidnapping in south Tulsa Wednesday night.

Captain Jerrod Hart says an uncle called them from the Victory Christian Center at 77th and South Lewis around 10:45 p.m.

According to Captain Hart, the uncle told police through a translator that he was cleaning the baseball facility at Victory when four men tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Police say the uncle told officers that he had no money on him, so the suspects abducted his 11-year-old nephew instead.

TPD launched an all-out search for the boy, and about two hours later, police say they found him in a weight room at the baseball facility at Victory.

“We located the child at the baseball facility, at the weight room. The child was in air conditioning, watching TV, and eating some food,” Captain Hart says.

Police asked the boy what happened, and Hart says the nephew told officers “that the uncle had given him keys because he was hot and that the uncle worked three jobs and that he had come here with the uncle. And the uncle was going to take a nap, and the child said he got hot so the uncle said, ‘Here’s my keys I’m going to leave for 10 minutes. I’ll be back you just wait in the weight room.’”

TPD says the 11-year-old told them the uncle gave him keys to the building before the alleged abduction occurred. The nephew also told police there was other people involved, but he didn’t know who they were and couldn’t give a description.

Captain Hart says the uncle is adamant that the child was abducted, but it’s still too early to tell what actually happened. So far, no arrests have been made.
