Child critical; woman badly burned in house fire

UPDATE: The Tulsa Fire Department says the 8-year-old girl is critical, but was stabilized at the hospital and has since been flown to Houston for further treatment.


TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Fire Department says an 8-year-old child is in critical condition and a woman is in the hospital after a house fire this morning in north Tulsa.

Firefighters were called to the home near West Edison Street and North Union Avenue just before 9 a.m.

Witnesses say they saw the woman running in and out of the flames, trying to save the child.

Firefighters say the little girl was not breathing when they rescued her, but she did have a pulse when she was rushed to the hospital, where she is critical.

The woman, also in the hospital, was badly burned.

Two dogs were also inside the home. One survived, while the other died in the fire.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
