SAPULPA, Okla. — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has responded to a fiery, multi-vehicle crash Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of the Turner Turnpike at the Sapulpa exit near Kellyville that killed at least one person.
OHP Lt. Mark Southall says that around 1:15 p.m., a semi-truck was parked on the outside shoulder, when a truck pulling a trailer drifted off the roadway and struck the back of the semi, causing both vehicles to catch on fire.
Southall described the incident as a fatal crash, but he said they’re not sure how many people have died.
He said the semi driver was injured with non-life-threatening injuries.
He said two horses were removed from the trailer, and one may have died.
As of 6:00 p.m., the two inside lanes going eastbound had been reopened, but traffic was still extremely slow.
One inside westbound lane was closed briefly after the crash but was reopened relatively quickly.
