BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The City of Broken Arrow will begin work in August to repair a failing retaining wall on a mile-long stretch of the recreational Liberty Trail on the north side of the Creek Turnpike, between Aspen and Elm.
The trail has technically been closed for the past year, but the city says some people have continued to use it, even though some sections of the wall are leaning precariously.
Broken Arrow Special Projects Manager Jennifer Tillson says time, and all the heavy rain this year have taken a toll on the wall.
“The water is getting stuck behind the wall, and because of a build-up of hydrostatic pressure, the wall is now failing,” Tillson said.
She says the wall is unsafe and says the addition of construction crews will create even more hazards, so the city is strongly encouraging citizens to avoid that section of the trail between Aspen and Elm.
She says repairs will take about 4 months.
