Meta to build $1 Billion data center in East Tulsa

Meta is getting in on the data center craze in Oklahoma.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is building a $1 Billion, 2-million-square-foot Artificial Intelligence (AI) optimized data center in East Tulsa at Fair Oaks Innovation Park. Groundbreaking was announced in April, marking Meta’s first Oklahoma facility. This center will create over 1,000 construction jobs and more than 100  permanent jobs.
The center is specifically designed for AI workloads to support Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta platforms. The total investment exceeds $1 billion and features a $25 million investment in local infrastructure. The project aims to be “water positive” and will utilize, at a minimum, 100% renewable energy. The facility is being built in East Tulsa, with Fortis Construction as the general contractor.
The project is expected to impact the East Tulsa economy and infrastructure.
However, some residents in several communities, such as Coweta and Sand Springs, are against the data centers proposed in their communities. Coweta is no longer entertaining a data center, and some Sand Springs residents are attempting to recall three city councilors, and it looks like their bid to do so failed.
