It’s early 2026, and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office has already solved another cold case.

The Sheriff’s Office held a press conference on Thursday to announce the arrest of Alonzo Johnson in the 2008 murder of Frederick Wilson.

Johnson is currently serving time for a different murder and will face a new first-degree murder charge. He was a suspect early in the case, but police didn’t have the technology they have today. During the 2008 murder, two masked men tied up Wilson and his girlfriend with zip ties, and Wilson was shot in the head.

When officers arrived, they found Wilson with a pillow over his head, and there was a bullet hole in the pillow. The girlfriend wasn’t harmed. Police used DNA years after the murder, matching Johnson’s DNA with the zip ties used in the murder. They tested the saliva found on the zip ties, and it matched Johnson.

Regalado said new DNA technology and good old-fashioned police work helped solve the case. He also spoke about the victim’s family.

“No announcement can undo that loss, but today, we hope this brings a sense of closure and a reminder that her son’s case was never forgotten,” Regalado said.

Wilson’s mother, Sandra Wilson, says she was grateful for the detective’s hard work.

“It’s a big relief that there’s an arrest now, that I know who he is, even though it won’t bring my child back,” Sandra Wilson said.
