TULSA COUNTY, Okla. — Tulsa County officials are urging people to take precautions ahead of the winter weather this weekend.
Officials said Tulsa County is always prepared to respond to winter weather with its 60 dedicated Highway Department employees who are trained and equipped for times like these.
On Thursday, Tulsa County Highway District crews began preparing for the winter weather by installing plows and sanders on trucks and pre-treating bridges and known trouble spots.
Crews will continue pre-treating bridges and priority areas on Friday morning. County officials said plowing and sanding operations will begin as snowfall develops.
Crews will work rotating shifts as they continue to treat roads throughout the weekend and beyond as needed.
Below is a look at Tulsa County’s available winter weather response resources:
- 15 trucks with salt spreaders and snowplows
- Three liquid applicator brine trucks
- One motor grader for plowing
- 6,000 tons of salt
- Two brine mixing systems holding 6,000 gallons of brine

The county also shared the following advisory actions for residents:
- Protect the 4 P’s: People, Pets, Plants, Pipes
- Dress in layers if you must be outdoors
- Use alternate heating sources safely
- Staying indoors is the best way to stay safe during severe winter storms
- Check on elderly neighbors and bring pets indoors
- Monitor weather forecasts and allow extra time for travel
