The Marriage Gap - Obama a hit with singles, Romney big with married couples

By Staff

Never mind the gender gap, a big difference between the two presidential candidates' supporters is whether they are married or not, with the gap particularly pronounced among single women.

A Quinnipiac University poll out yesterday (July 11th) shows that President Obama is just barely ahead of Mitt Romney overall, 46 percent to 43 percent.

However, Romney has a 51 percent to 38 percent advantage among married people, while Obama has an even larger 54 percent to 34 percent lead among those who are single.

Among married men, Romney is up 54 percent to 35 percent and among married women his lead is a narrower 49 percent to 42 percent.

Among single men, Obama is ahead 47 percent to 38 percent, while among single women his lead is a whopping 60 percent to 31 percent.
