NYC mom sues elite preschool, claims daughter's Ivy League chances hurt

  • comment(17)

A Manhattan mother is suing her four-year-old daughter's elite preschool for the $19,000 annual tuition, saying it was, quote, "one big playroom," and that her daughter didn't get the education she needed to get into an elite elementary school.

Nicole Imprescia said she first enrolled her daughter in the York Avenue Preschool when she was two years old, won over by its promise that it would help prepare the girl for the standardized test used for admission to the city's most competitive kindergartens.

But Imprescia said that instead of her daughter being prepared for the test by the time she was four, she was instead, quote, "dumped" in with children as young as two who were learning about shapes and colors.

The lawsuit charges that Imprescia was deceived and defrauded, and that the school may have hurt her daughter's chances of getting into an Ivy League college and earning a higher income.

QUESTIONS:

  • What do you think of Imprescia filing this lawsuit that claims she was deceived and defrauded?
  • What do you think of the lawsuit claiming that the school may have hurt Imprescia's daughter's chances of getting into an Ivy League college and earning a higher income?
  • Do you think it's healthy for parents to be pushing their children to get into "elite" preschools and kindergartens?
