Tasha Ball of TashaDoesTulsa.com joins us every Friday morning with her
weekend picks for things to do in Tulsa.
Festivals Galore
Tulsa Tough. Get your cow bells ready, Tulsa, because world-class cyclists will be touring downtown and beyond this weekend - I'm talking about Tulsa Tough, and it brings Cat III racing every summer to Tulsa. Good places to watch are the Blue Dome District, the Brady District and Cry Baby hill at 13th and Riverside, where you can both encourage and heckle the cyclists. The first race kicks off in the Blue Dome District at 6:20 tonight, and it'll stay in T-Town through Sunday.
OK Mozart Festival. OK Mozart International Festival is here, and it brings a variety of classical and crossover music to Bartlesville each year - get everything from chamber music in a concert hall to outdoor concerts featuring artists that bring an international gravitas to this event.
Oklahoma Chautauquah. If you're up for a little historical tourism this weekend, you can find that as part of the annual Oklahoma Chautauquah festival today and tomorrow at OSU-Tulsa.
ShakeDown in T-Town. As if downtown Tulsa wasn't busy enough this weekend, there's also Shake Down in T-Town, a festival featuring a performance of Shakespeare's As You Like It, as well as local food, arts and crafts, music and more, and it's free to get in. It's all at Centennial Park at 6th and Peoria tonight and tomorrow night; show time is 7:30, but the party gets started at noon on Saturday with a festival featuring lots to eat and a variety of family-friendly entertainment.
For the Kids
Farm Fest. It's like a petting zoo, only bigger and better - it's Farm Fest at Tulsa Zoo, and the kids will be able to get up close and personal with some familiar farm animal friends as well as folks showcasing their skills in woodcarving, weaving, sheep shearing, blacksmithing, cow miling and more. Find it at the Zoo today, tomorrow and Sunday.
Rock and Rescue. Bring your pet or find a new one at Saturday's Rock & Rescue event, a pet adoption party at Blue Rose Cafe on Riverside Drive in downtown Tulsa. Find it and lots of cuddle-worthy pals from noon to 4pm.
Free Second Saturday at Philbrook. Parents get free admission when they take their kids to Philbrook Museum this Saturday. Second Saturday events pack in the fun with a variety of family-friendly activities, from arts and crafts to an artsy scavenger hunt.
Other Stuff
Admiral Twin Groundbreaking Event. The Admiral Twin Drive-In is being rebuilt, and you can be part of it this weekend by being there for the groundbreaking event Saturday morning. The gates open at 10am, and the ceremony starts at 10:30am.
Phantom of the (Country) Opera. If you're not quite in the mood to help build a movie screen but you're still on the hunt for a good show, check out Phantom of the Country Opera, a rendition of the classic with which I'm thinking most of us Oklahomans could probably identify. Find it at the Broken Arrow Community Playhouse tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.
School for Red Hot Mommas Burlesque and Vaudeville Show. Eye Candy Burlesque and Horsemeat Flea Circus Naughty Vaudefville Cabaret bring Tulsa a weekend of classic burlesque and vaudeville at the Nightingale Theatre with the School for Red Hot Mommas show. Get it tonight and tomorrow.
Edible Garden Tour. Check out some of Tulsa's most fabulous gardens, all good enough to eat. Find it tomorrow from 9-4 and Sunday from noon to four starting at the Tulsa Garden Center. The cost is $5, with kids admitted free of charge.
