Tasha Ball of TashaDoesTulsa.com joins us every Friday with a list of things to do this weekend in Tulsa.

For the Fam

  • The Big Chill. There's plenty of cool stuff going on at Tulsa Zoo t his weekend, including half-price admission for early birds that get to the gates between 7-9am, air-conditioned animal chats in the BOK Pavilion, some water play and, get this, blood popscicles for the lions - mmm.
  • Heatwave in the Heartland. No, not that heatwave – this one is different, and it features over 100 giant-scale radio-controlled aircraft flown by 75 pilots in displays ranging from the acrobatic to 3D demonstrations. Admission is free and so is parking, but don't forget your lawn chair, sun screen and hat if you head out for this weekend flying event. You can get that today, tomorrow and Sunday.
  • Tulsa Drillers: Friday night fireworks, a performance from just shy of a dozen real, live Dallas Cheerleaders at Grand Slam Saturday, and Family FUNday, when cracker jack is $1, hot dogs are 50 cents and the Drillers run a splash pad of sorts at ONEOK Field.
  • Tulsa County 4H Ice Cream Festival. Mmm...ice cream. Get plenty of it plus games, shopping, door prizes, plenty to do for the kids and live music from Aaron Patrick & The Classics. Admission is $4, and you better believe that includes the creamy frozen stuff. Through 8pm. Friday.

Music

  • KE$HA. She canceled on us in April – something about being stuck on a bus in Texas – but she swears she’ll make the stage at Brady Theater Sunday night. If you had tickets to the sold-out show, now is the time to make sure you get your money’s worth.
  • Tickets on sale: Dolly Parton. She's coming to the BOK Center Oct. 8 and this morning is your first chance to get those tickets.

Other Stuff

  • Tulsa United Film Festival.
  • The Tulsa United Film Festival returns to Tulsa this weekend, bringing 17 films to screens at Circle Cinema, Ida Red and Living Arts of Tulsa. The festival continues through the weekend and features lots of Tulsa tie-ins, including some Gary Busey connections; learn more and get tickets to movies running as part of the Tulsa United Film Festival at theunitedfest.com.
  • Reckless Redneck Downhill Race. Running downhill is just about the only kind of running anyone in Tulsa can do with all this heat, and tonight you can do it in your best redneck garb, whether that means your overalls or your Billy Bob teeth. Look also for live bluegrass music, prize money for the winners, free beer and redneck games like sunflower seed spitting and toilet seat horseshoes. Register at TATUR.org.
  • Magic Illusions by Steve Lancaster. You bought your Halloween costume from Steve Lancaster (he's the guy behind the counter - and cameras - at Top Hat Magic & Costumes at 41st and Yale), now you can see him work his magic on the stage. A showcase of illusions for the entire family. Sunday at 2pm.
