TULSA WORLD - The City Council will vote Thursday on whether to request that Mayor Dewey Bartlett extend his external search for a police chief to longer than the one week he has allotted. Councilor Maria Barnes, who is pursuing the council consensus, said that is not enough time for a serious process. "It takes more than seven days for outside candidates to know that a search is going on, research the city and get their application in order," she said. Barnes said extending the search to at least 30 days should be no reflection on interim Police Chief Chuck Jordan, who has confirmed he will be a candidate.

TULSA WORLD - The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed Wednesday that it is reviewing Sen. Jim Inhofe's recent landing on a closed runway that one eyewitness said endangered workers at a small Texas airport. FAA investigators were at the Port Isabel-Cameron County Airport on Friday, the day after the incident, to receive statements from eyewitnesses, reposition vehicles that were in the area and take photos. The top issues for the agency are expected to be why Inhofe, R-Okla., landed a twin-engine Cessna on a runway clearly marked as closed with giant X's and what he knew about a so-called NOTAM, which are issued to notify pilots of such matters. Inhofe, 75, is a veteran pilot with a commercial rating and more than 50 years of flying experience.

Fallin said she was thrilled that Watts could join her on the campaign trail.
WHAT?! ABC - The Democratic National Committee formally has asked the Pentagon for reams of correspondence between military agencies and nine potential Republican presidential candidates, a clear indication that Democrats are building opposition-research files on specific 2012 contenders even before the midterm elections. An internal Army e-mail obtained by ABC News indicates that the DNC has filed Freedom of Information Act requests for "any and all records of communication" between Army departments and agencies and each of the nine Republicans -- all of whom are widely mentioned as possible challengers to President Obama. The agencies are asked to respond to the request by this Friday, just four days before Election Day.

According to scientists at UC San Diego and Harvard University, "ideology is affected not just by social factors, but also by a dopamine receptor gene called DRD4." That and how many friends you had during high school. The study was led by UCSD's James Fowler and focused on 2,000 subjects from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. Scientists matched the subjects' genetic information with "maps" of their social networks. According to researchers, they determined that people "with a specific variant of the DRD4 gene were more likely to be liberal as adults." However, the, subjects were only more likely to have leanings to the left if they were also socially active during adolescence.

The settlers would be sent supplies from Earth, but would go on the understanding that it would be too costly to make the return trip. An Obama administration official said Ahmed, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Pakistan, first drew the attention of law enforcement officials by seeking to obtain unspecified materials. He later became the target of an undercover sting, officials said.
DEADLINE.COM - We just learned that James Cameron is telling Hollywood that Fox made a "huge" donation to his environmental green fund, and in return he committed to making the Avatar sequel and threequel his next films. That also caused him to withdraw from Sony Pictures' Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie, even though he'd told the studio that he'd always wanted to film the Queen Of The Nile's story. With this move, Twentieth Century Fox effectively ties up James Cameron through December 2015, apparently putting a hold on Sony Pictures' hopes for the director to helm a fast-tracked Cleopatra starring Angelina Jolie in 2012:

Toilet paper has gone tubeless. Gone are the days of glue-laced toilet paper. Kimberly-Clark, the makers of Scott toilet paper, have created a new "natural" toilet paper that has no cardboard tube inside, so every last piece of toilet paper is usable. The tube-less toilet paper rolls will be sold in Wal-Mart stores and Sam's Club warehouse supermarkets across the Northeast and will expand nationally (possibly globally) if sales spike. The lack of a cardboard tube means putting a dent in the 160 million pounds of trash produced from toilet paper rings, which is enough cardboard to stretch from here to the moon and back --twice.
That fun couple, RANDY and EVI QUAID, were released yesterday after six days behind bars in Vancouver. And, thanks to the fact that her father was born in Canada, the Canada Border Security Agency says they now consider her to be (quote) "a prima facie Canadian citizen," and they'll actually consider her request to remain in Canada with her husband. As far as Randy's status goes, he's married to a Canadian citizen, but will have to apply to remain in the frozen North. Obviously, even if they are granted resident status in Canada, they could still be extradited for skipping that California arraignment hearing over charges that they were squatters in their former home.

The change has been attributed to the rising number of time-telling gadgets we carry around, such as cell phones, iPods and laptops. Most of those surveyed by market researchers Mintel said they relied on their phone or PC, rather than a watch, to tell the time. Although 86 percent of people still own a watch, more than nine in ten own a mobile. And those aged 25 or younger were twice as likely as those in their forties or fifties to have stopped wearing a watch, with 28 percent not having one.

Third, Billy Ray changed a bit, himself--he took a turn away from his established country music career to record a more rock-oriented album (under the name Brother Clyde). And now, sadly, another family institution is crumbling: Namely, Billy Ray and wife Tish Cyrus's 17-year marriage. According to People, the couple filed divorce documents on Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences.

FRESNO, Calif. -- A Clovis woman who reached a $1.4 million settlement with her former employer after being spanked in front of jeering co-workers finally has the right to get paid. Janet Orlando reached the 2006 settlement after Anaheim-based Alarm One Inc. appealed an earlier jury verdict. Orlando originally was awarded $1.7 million for being humiliated by the so-called team-building exercise, in which employees spanked each other with competitors' yard signs. But the former alarm system saleswoman never got a penny. The company and its liability insurers challenged the settlement contract, saying that no bank would finance the deal so they weren't bound by it. A Fresno County Superior Court jury on Tuesday found the companies breached the contract, and Orlando was entitled to the money.
