The Bartlett Admin's delay requesting federal JAG grant cost city taxpayers $316,768. The expense came in the form of severance fees, comp time, etc., to police officers. We now know, in an email from the acting deputy director of programs for the Bureau of Justice Assistance to Bartlett's chief of staff Terry Simonson, that the officers DID NOT need to be fired first for the JAG grant to be utilized, unlike Bartlett had previously asserted.
ALSO, Mayor Bartlett said he would consider hiring sheriff's deputies with more federal JAG money, at a lower cost than police officers, if the city can't afford more officers.

Prosecutors allege that Colleen LaRose used the Internet to recruit jihadist fighters and help terrorist overseas, even agreeing to move to Europe to try and kill a Swedish artist. LaRose referred to herself online as "Jihad Jane" (somewhat of a tip-off one would imagine).
