ANOTHER STATE CONSIDERS ARIZONA-STYLE IMMIGRATION LAW - The push to crack down on illegal immigration may have begun in Arizona, but it isn't ending there. A Republican state lawmaker in Texas says she'll introduce legislation similar to the bill signed by the Arizona governor last week. Texas State Representative Debbie Riddle accuses the federal government of ignoring the issue of illegal immigration. Her Democratic colleagues call the proposal misguided and suggest it could politically hurt the GOP. A Utah lawmaker is considering a similar bill as well.

Republican Florida Governor Charlie Crist has decided he will run as an independent in the race to fill the Florida U.S. Senate seat, although the official announcement is scheduled for Thursday at 5pm ET in St. Petersburg, Florida. The U.S. Coast Guard on Wednesday set a "controlled burn" to battle a giant oil slick from last week's deadly offshore drilling rig explosion, as the spill threatened wide-scale coastal damage for four U.S. Gulf Coast states. The leaking well, 5,000 feet (1,525 metres) under the sea off Louisiana's coast, has created an oil sheen and emulsified crude slick slightly bigger than the U.S. state of West Virginia, the Coast Guard said.
RUNWAY RULES - Good news for airplane passengers - horror stories of planes being stuck on the tarmac for 10 hours are about to become a thing of the past. Violators would face stiff fines - $27,500 per passenger (a full Boeing 737 would rack up a bill for $3.5 million).
