VIDEO: Bartlett Accuses Adelson of "Going Negative" in TV Spot, uses KRMG as Source

By Joe Kelley, Host of the KRMG Morning News

The Dewey Bartlett for Mayor campaign sent out a news release Sunday afternoon at 3:04pm (full news release below) that included a copy of their new TV commercial.

The TV commercial accuses Democrat Tom Adelson of launching a negative campaign against Bartlett and cites KRMG as the source of the negative attack. When I sought clarification from the Bartlett campaign, I was told that the interview in question happened on the KRMG Morning News on September 9th.

Here's the interview in question - Listen

You'll also observe that the citation of "KRMG Radio Inteview" includes a misspelled word.

This makes at least the second piece of campaign literature that includes a misspelled word.

Here is the TV commercial which started its run this morning:

Bartlett campaign releases new ad, shows Adelsons pattern of negative attacks

TULSAThe Dewey Bartlett campaign Friday announced the airing of a new television advertisement that questions the negative campaign tactics of state Senator Tom Adelson, a campaign spokesman said late Friday.

Adelson personally launched a negative campaign "the very first day of the general election," on Tulsa's morning talk shows, said Karl Ahlgren, a spokesman for the Bartlett campaign.

"Tulsans awoke early on Wednesday morning, Sept. 9, to Tom Adelson personally launching a scud missile attack on Dewey Bartlett, who Tulsans have always known to be a gentleman and a local businessman.

"When Tulsans see Senator Adelson's pattern of mudslinging, they will understand that he is a divider instead of a uniter," Ahlgren said.

The spot, titled Mr. Negative, asks the question: "Why is Tom Adelson resorting to a negative campaign?"

The advertisement then demonstrates that this is not the first time Adelson has waged a negative campaign. It shows that Tom Adelson has a pattern of dividing people instead of bringing them together.

"He shockingly attacked Governor Brad Henry after disagreeing over tax cuts. Tom emphatically wanted higher income taxes and even wrote in a Tulsa World editorial that states with high income taxes have better economies.

"Of course, it wasn't that he disagreed with Governor Henry that was so shocking, because we've always known that Senator Adelson is one of Oklahoma's most liberal politicians. The shocking part was that he actually called the Governor a traitor.

"Adelson said this not only about a member of his own party but about a former employer," Ahlgren said.

Adelson got his first taste of state politics from working in Henrys cabinet as Secretary of Health.

"The truth is that Governor Henry is a more mainstream and conservative Democrat, while Adelson affiliates with the more liberal elements of the national Democrat Party," Ahlgren said.

Bartlett said today that he wasn't really surprised when Adelson attacked Henry.

"Tom Adelson, in our state Senate race, attacked me in the very final days and misled the voters without giving me an opportunity for response.

"We simply cannot allow Senator Adelson to get away with his dirty tricks this time. We need a unifier and not a divider. And we need a mayor who can work with both parties to accomplish a positive direction for our city.

"We must begin to set the record straight after Senator Adelsons early morning attack," Bartlett said.
