The 2010 State of the Union Address from President Obama probably won't be talked about in textbooks in another 50 years or so, but it did give some interesting insights into the decisions of the President on what might cure his recent political troubles.
The President noted the economic troubles that have hit Americans in recent years, but as a President always does, those problems can be overcome.
"Despite our hardships, our union is strong," Mr. Obama noted.
"We do not give up. We do not quit."
That "stubborn resilience" as he put it also might describe the Republican minority in the Congress, as they seem more and more energized every day to take on the Obama Administration.
The President talked a good bit about jobs, but there wasn't any super-duper-new item on job creation - instead, much of the post-game chatter in the Capitol was about what he said - or did not say - about health care reform.
Mr. Obama got some laughs when he admitted that his health initiative is not going forward.
"By now it should be fairly obvious that I didn't take on health care because it was good politics," he said to good natured laughter in the House Chamber, as he also pointed the finger at himself for the troubles.
"I take my share of the blame for not explaining it more clearly to the American people," he said.
So what's next for those driving for universal health insurance?
"I will not walk away from these Americans, and neither should the people in this chamber," he said to applause.
But while the rhetoric sounded good to his supporters, his GOP critics found little to like on health care and little to hang their hat on when it comes to the desire for bipartisanship.
In the end, the President offered no plan of action and no timetable for health care reform.
It was almost like he is ready to let it get shifted to the back burner of American politics.
One interesting thing that he did was to threaten vetoes on a financial reform bill and budget bills if they did not meet with his liking.
That's a page out of the Clinton handbook. We'll see if he follows through or not.
