Obama Speaks To Congress

Previous Posts

By Jamie Dupree

The big spectacle tonight will be President Barack Obama addressing a Joint Session of the Congress, and addressing the American people on a host of issues.

While it isn't a State of the Union Address, it will look just like one.

Democrats will take every chance they get to leap to their feet and applaud their standardbearer, and try to make Republicans out to be a bunch of whiney, rich jerks for opposing the stimulus bill.

The White House says no new plans will be unveiled tonight, but I find it hard to believe that Obama isn't going to give a speech that's bereft of details.

One would think he will lay out what he wants to pursue in his post-economic stimulus agenda.

The latest poll numbers I've seen has Obama down a little into the low to mid 60s in terms of his approval rating.

Remember, George W. Bush was in the 20s a little before he left office.

I would bet tonight's speech helps Obama, even though controversy over Democratic ideas will be bubbling beneath the surface on a host of issues, like the home foreclosure plan.

He'll get big ratings numbers tonight.  Whether that can translate into other major legislative victories this year remains a bit uncertain.

What do you think you will hear?
