Twitter campaign gets Owasso special needs student in a varsity basketball game

It’s a dream that really came true for Owasso basketball team manager Nathan Mitcham.

Nathan is a special needs student but has some game and after a social media campaign went viral, he was allowed to play in the Rams game Tuesday night against Sand Springs.

And Nathan didn’t just play, he played well.

Mitcham shot 50% from the field, hit a three from the corner and scored a total of eight points in just four minutes. His night ended when his teammates carried him off the court on their shoulders to thunderous cheers.

This all started when students at the school wanted to see Nathan get a shot at playing at least once. They took to twitter with a campaign titled #dressnathanout. The push got tweets from Heisman trophy winner Johnnie Manziel, Kevin Durant and Toby Keith just to name a few.

Owasso won the game, beating Sand Springs 75-55 but that’s one final score not many people will remember. In this case, it wasn’t the most important part of the game.
