Three crooks vs. one father. Dad shoots two, one gets away

A father and his family were enjoying a peaceful day when three men broke into their apartment and demanded money.

But Javier Ortiz was having none of it.

Ortiz grabbed his gun and shot two of the bad guys while the third one ran away. The two burglars who were hit both died from their injuries.

Police in Houston say they are on the lookout for the third, probably still frightened crook.

Ortiz wife Lila Pena told KPRC-TV their kids watched the whole incident happen and were shaken but proud.

Pena’s seven year old boy was heard to say “my dad took the gun out, then he shot the two, he’s a great hero.”

Even though the case was listed as self-defense the case will be sent to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for review.
