Tulsa, Oklahoma - Former Tulsa Union High School football star and Notre Dame transfer Matt Romine has enrolled for summer classes at The University of Tulsa as a graduate student, it was announced today. Romine received his bachelor's degree from Notre Dame in May, but still has one year of eligibility remaining and will complete that year with the Golden Hurricane.
Romine, a 6'5", 295-pound offensive tackle, played in 24 games during his career with the Fighting Irish. He played in nine games last year and started three contests, including Pittsburgh, Western Michigan and Navy. Romine played in a reserve role when Tulsa visited Notre Dame in October.
Romine saw action in eight games as a junior and five contests his sophomore season. He played in two games as a true freshman in 2007 before suffering an elbow injury and receiving a medical red-shirt that season.
At Union High School, Romine played for current TU Head Coach Bill Blankenship in all but his senior season. As a senior, he earned second-team prep All-America accolades at offensive tackle by USA Today. Romine was a first-team all-state selection by the Tulsa World and The Oklahoman his senior year as well. Scout.com listed him as the 12th-best offensive guard prospect in the country and the third-ranked player in Oklahoma. As a junior, Romine helped lead the Blankenship-coached Union High School team to an overall 13-1 record for the school's second straight state championship.
Following his senior campaign at Union High School, Romine played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, and was voted one of four captains for the West team.
Romine received his bachelor's degree from Notre Dame in business administration with a marketing specialty and will work towards a master's degree in Education at Tulsa.
