Snowstorm Postpones Funerals and Burials

(Tulsa, OK) - For several days last week, funerals were canceled and burials did not take place because of the winter storm. It may be the same story again this week.

Elaine Moore with Moore's Southlawn Chapel says some funerals took place this weekend.

"You know people don't think about that but we have not been able to get the caskets delivered and urns delivered and the flowers delivered either. So, we try to tell the families ahead of time that is an extraordinary situation," says Moore.

She adds some cementeries had difficulty because of the snow on the ground. Southlawn Chapel has several burials on Monday but Moore says, "The families are not going to be allowed for their safety to go to the actual grave side but they will be able to drive-by but the cemetery has experienced quite a bit of difficulty finding the markers to even locate the graves."

Moore says it may be a similar situation going into Wednesday with the expected storm. She is working with families on Monday to schedule funerals and memorial services for later in the week.

We also checked with Floral Haven. A spokesperson says operations were halted for two days last week on Tuesday and Wednesday.
