TULSA, Okla. - The Eliot Elementary School playground, near 36th and Rockford, was set on fire around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.
The playground now consists of melted slides and burned monkey bars.
Tulsa Fire investigators told FOX23 they need any tips about the suspicious act.
FOX23 was on scene and spoke with Tulsa police and fire investigators about the incident.
Campus police told us they teaming up with the Tulsa Fire Department during this investigation.
Officials said, at this time they are still determining if the fire was caused by an arsonist or by accident.
Tulsa Public School Officer Alan McDonald said, “I don't know whether it was an accident or intentionally set but when they get through with that investigation I'm sure we'll know.”
McDonald also said if it was intentionally set, they will want to put the person responsible behind bars.
When we spoke briefly with fire investigators on the scene they told us they are definitely not ruling out arson.
Officer McDonald used his flashlight to show FOX23 around what's left of the playground at Eliot Elementary.
FOX23 is checking into what this could mean for students coming to this school in just a few weeks.
Stay with FOX23 News, we will bring you more details as they unfold.
