Wintry mix hits on the first day of 2015

A mixture of sleet and freezing rain is expected to move across Eastern Oklahoma Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa says slick spots are likely to develop on roadways, especially northwest of a line from McAlester to Berryville, Arkansas.

Roads were already slick in spots around the lunch hour in Cherokee, Adair, Muskogee, McIntosh, Sequoyah and Haskell.

Less than a tenth of ice accumulation expected.

Winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6:00 Thursday evening for the following counties:

• Cherokee
• Adair
• Creek
• Okfuskee
• Okmulgee
• Wagoner
• Tulsa
• Rogers
• Mayes
• Delaware
• Pittsburg
• Sequoyah
• McIntosh
• Muskogee
• Le Flore
• Latimer
• Haskell

At 1:42, the NWS expanded the advisory to include Pawnee, Ottawa,  Washington,  Osage, Craig and Nowata counties.

FOX23 Chief Meteorologist James Aydelott says the high will hover right around the freezing mark. Thursday night's low is 28.

Periods of the wintry mix could continue into Friday and Saturday.
