It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, or at least like winter. Monday temperatures are the kind that requires a big coat, gloves, a hat, and any other warm clothing you may have.

In a year that may go down as the hottest on record, Monday will seem more than a little bit different.  “Winters going to feel like it’s here, for sure” National Weather Service forecaster Brad McGavock told KRMG news Monday morning.

“We’ll struggle to get out of the upper 30’s at least in Tulsa” Brad noted. “Normal high temperatures at this time of the year are around 50-51.”

McGavock says that means a complete reversal of what we’ve been used to “10-15 degrees below normal for high temperatures today” he said as he checked his computer models.

KRMG news asked McGavock if this signals the end of above average warmth in our area. “We could still be above normal several days for the remainder of the year but the temperatures themselves will still feel cold.”

“It’s all relative to what’s average for this time of year but obviously we’re not going to be having any of the summertime heat” Brad chuckled.

Translation: Winter is here but it’s still warmer than normal. McGavock thinks that’s a trend that we may see continue. “There’s going to be bouts of cold temperatures from now through the winter months and we’re likely to have a chance for some snow or ice in the area” he began.

“Overall the long range forecasts are for the temperatures to average above normal for the winter” he finished.

So nothing like the awful storm of 2007 that made life miserable for all of us.
