Okmulgee, Oklahoma —

Things are looking better in Okmulgee today after water service is restored following a break at the water treatment plant west of the city.

A new connection at the treatment plant broke yesterday and left 40,000 water customers including Susie Streight without water and under a boil order.

"You know it's hard to do anything, you can't laundry, you can't shower. Cooking, you know you're just going to have to come up with ways to get around it," Streight said.

Okmulgee Fire Chief Rick Mitchell says they borrowed a water tanker just in case and "as long as we don't have any big major downtown fires we'll be fine. If we run out of water we'll go get it out of the lake or the pond."

Okmulgee City Manager Bob Baxter told the News On 6 that the repair took two hours, but it failed again causing repairs to take even longer.

"We issued a boil order and short time for all the people and that will affect all of our customers, even the rural water districts," Baxter said.
