While the meteorologists on the ground were closely tracking the deadly Midwest tornado outbreak last weekend, our space agency was tracking it from outer space.

KRMG has obtained NASA's animation of visible and infrared satellite data from the April 14-15, when more than 135 tornadoes were reported across the Midwest.

NASAdescribes the satellite responsible for the images:

The GOES-13 (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) satellite is operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NASA/NOAA's GOES Project at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. created the animation of GOES-13 satellite data that covered the period during the massive tornado outbreak.
