Volunteers from the Tulsa chapter of the American Red Cross left Friday morning from Tulsa headed to Alabama to help with disaster relief.
John Johnson and his wife, Berenice, are driving an Emergency Response Vehicle which can deliver meals and supplies to residents.
"We just like doing this work.  We don't like why we do it but we love doing it because you can help people so much," says John.  The couple has been married for 43 years and volunteer together.  Berenice says it is rewarding and she feels like they make a difference.

The Johnson’s helped with Hurricane Ike recovery, the tornado in Tecumseh, the tornado in Ardmore so they have experience in disaster relief.

This couple keeps their bags packed.  The Johnson's have only been home about a week after helping with the Tushka tornado.  "She keeps us packed for 21 days--be gone 21 days.  And when they call from Tulsa to say you are on alert- then we start maybe moving stuff a little bit.  And then they will say you are on stand-by, then we move a little bit more and then they say come on and then we go," says John.

John and Berenice Johnson along with another volunteer team left Friday morning and could be gone up to three weeks with this disaster relief response to Alabama.
