TULSA, Okla. —

The Tulsa Police Department has released the nameof the suspect in the deadly officer-involved shooting at a south Tulsa apartment complex.

Investigators say 31-year-old Juan Antonio Gonzalez was shot to death by police after Gonzalez apparently pointed a weapon at officers.

Ofc. Daniel Madewell remains on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting incident, which occurred at the Copper Mill Apartments near E. 71st St. and S. Yale Ave. about 11:00 p.m. Saturday.

Officers had responded to a call about a suicidal man. Gonzalez had threatened his roommate with a knife and had refused repeated demands to exit the apartment peacefully.

Two hours or so into the standoff, the man came out onto the balcony, which officers say he had done several times before, but this time he had a weapon in his hands.

The weapon appeared to be a rifle, fitted with a scope, and when he pointed it at officers, police say, Madewell opened fire.

After police entered the apartment and recovered the weapon, they discovered it was a BB gun.

The District Attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.
