TULSA —

Tulsa police have identified the officer who shot and killed an armed robbery suspect Monday night.

Ofcr. Warren Bigelow, 40, has served with TPD for seven years.

Earlier Tuesday, KRMG learned the name of the suspect.

Manuel Sanchez, 32, died from his wounds. He was shot minutes after police say he committed two robberies nearby.

Officers had responded to 911 calls reporting two robberies, apparently committed by the same suspect, near 4th and Utica at a Taco Mayo and neighboring car wash about 9:40 p.m.

Moments later, an officer searching the area spotted a man matching the suspect's description sitting on a porch in the 400 block of S. Xanthus Ave., a few blocks to the east of the crime scenes.

Tulsa Police Captain Karen Tipler tells KRMG the man ran into a back yard when the officer approached him, then turned and produced a gun.

She says that's when the officer fired "at least once" and struck the man in the abdomen.

He was tranported to a nearby hospital, but died shortly after arriving.

Capt. Tipler says the Sanchez's description matches "in detail" the suspect in "several violent crimes" committed earlier in the day in Sapulpa.

KRMG contacted Sapulpa PD, but they refused to answer any questions about the earlier crimes.

The officer will be suspended with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

This is the third time Tulsa police have shot and killed a suspect this year.

On March 20, Phillip Steven Doll was shot and killed in the 900 block of E. 36th St. after police responding to a 911 call found him attacking an elderly woman in her home.

Doll refused to comply with officers' demands and they opened fire.

April 3, a man named Bobby Sutton was shot and killed by officers after he lunged at them with a knife at an apartment complex near 61st and Lewis.

Police termed it a "suicide by cop" scenario.
