Tulsa, Okla. —
They call their group "49th is Not OK", because they say Oklahoma's education-funding is second-to-last, 49th in the nation.
The group of Tulsa parents will hold a rally outside the Edison High School fieldhouse tonight at 6:30 p.m., urging lawmakers to take $50 million from the state's budget surplus of $90 million and apply it toward various school districts around the state.
Organizer Gabby Ricketts says at the current level of funding, Tulsa Public Schools stands to lose 75 teachers, resulting in an increase in class sizes.
She believes using the surplus money is a wise use of taxpayer dollars, saying that it's not enough for Oklahoma to have an inexpensive workforce.
She says it also needs an educated workforce.
"If we invest in our kids, if we invest in this workforce that we're going to have in a few years, we can attract more business to Oklahoma," Ricketts said.
