A two-alarm fire forces the evacuation of a Tulsa apartment complex near 11th and Yale around 9:30 Thursday morning.

The entire apartment complex could have burned to the ground, but firefighters were able to get there quickly.

Tulsa Fire Department Administrative Chief Jeremy Moore says they had to call in backup.

He tells KRMG, "We did get several resources out here because of the large common attic for the entire attic.”

Moore says the u-shaped building shares one long attic with no fire walls.

That’s why all of the renters and animals were evacuated.

Anita Todd says, “The firemen here, they got all of my animals out, two dogs, two ferrets, two guinea pigs and five birds and a tarantula.”

Todd even professed her love for the firefighters after they rescued her pets.

“They are awesome. I am just in love with them right now.”

Firefighters believe the fire started on a mattress.

One firefighter was treated for a bloody nose.
