Tulsa democrats optimistic Obama will win second term

By Glenn Schroeder

TULSA, Okla —

Hundreds of Tulsa Democrats will gather election night at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.

Michael Whelan is Co-Chairman of the Tulsa County Democratic Party.

He says their watch party will begin about 30 minutes after the polls close Tuesday night. “We’re very excited about President Obama winning another term, and even more so for our Democratic candidates.  As a party official I think every election is an important election.  But in this one the lines are very clearly drawn as to the choices we have to make in this election:  Whether to continue to move forward or to go back to the policies that we saw four years ago."

One race that has garnered a lot of attention in Tulsa is the race for the First District Congressional seat between Democrat John Olson and Republican Jim Bridenstine.  "I have seen numbers all over the spectrum on the First District race,” Whelan said.

"I think one thing that'll be most interesting is to see moderate Republicans vote for a Democrat for the first time in a generation because they're uncomfortable with a nominee for Congress that's so far to the right that moderates feel like they no longer have a voice,”Whelan said.

The Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame is located downtown, on First Street between Cincinnati and South Boston.
