Tulsa Chamber reveals picks for City Council

Tulsa City Council
The Tulsa City Council

By Steve Berg

(Tulsa, OK) - The Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce announced the list of City Council candidates who are getting  financial contributions and endorsements from its recently created "TulsaBizPac" political action committee.

The candidates are getting varying levels of support from the chamber.  Some are getting financial contributions only.  Some are getting financial contributions plus an endorsement for the primary election.  And some are getting a financial contribution plus an endorsement for both the primary and general elections.

"We felt good obviously about the people that we did anything for, but particulary those we are both supporting with a financial backing and an endorsement," said David Page, chairman for TulsaBizPac.

The chamber's political action committee was formed in part because of the ongoing strife between the Mayor's office and the city council.

While the chamber was deliberate to avoid assigning blame with either side, it did express a desire to find candidates who could find a way to navigate around the current hostilities.

"I think we were absolutely looking for people who were more interested in moving things forward rather than finding fault with the current situation," Page said.

Of the candidates receiving help from the chamber, Jack  Henderson, Phil Lakin, G.T. Bynum, and David Patrick got the most support with a $2,500 donation and endorsements for both the primary and general elections.  Blake Ewing and Liz Hunt got the least with a $1,000 donation only.

The council primaries are September 13th.
