We are learning more about the relationship between Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt and one of the Broken Arrow churches opposing the building of the Red Clay Casino.
Pruitt’s bio on the Attorney General’s website says he is a deacon at First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow.
The Kialegee Tribal Town that is building the Red Clay Casino in Broken Arrow is raising Pruitt’s membership in that church and claims he is biased and should recuse himself from the federal lawsuit filed today to try and stop the casino's construction.
The tribe, in its statement on the federal lawsuit filed, says Pruitt’s church is leading the anti-casino movement.
First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow Pastor Nick Garland takes issue with how the Kialegee Tribal Town is phrasing its statement.
“Because we are not a leader, we are certainly opposed to the casino being built as we would be any gambling coming into our community. However, in this case we are a participant along with several other churches.”
Garland says the actual leader of the prayer walk last Sunday was Abiding Harvest, a church located near the site of the proposed casino.
“We encouraged our members on Sunday morning to respond to the invitation that had gone to the churches to please come and have their members come and participate in a prayer time from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and I liked the concept and invited our folks to do so and quite frankly had quite a few of our folks show up for which I was grateful,” says Garland.
