TULSA, Okla. —

The number of deaths from car wrecks in Oklahoma was up this November as compared to 2010. The number rose by four, from 49 to 53.

The numbers were released Friday by the Deaprtment of Public Safety.

Tulsa County led the state with three deaths, along with Wagoner, Rogers Gavin, Cherokee and Canadian.

Of the people killed 54 percent were not wearing safety belts.

DPS says most of the fatalities occurred on county roads rather than state highways. There were 19 deaths on county roads and 13 on state highways.

The department broke down the stats in a news release, saying two of the deadly crashes were alcohol-related and 43 of the victims were Oklahoma residents.

Eight of the 53 were age 20 or under. The largest group was 14 deaths in the age 21 to 30 category.

There have been 661 traffic deaths in the state this year. That's compared with 662 this time last year.
