Tulsa, Okla. —

It was 40 years ago in March that the last U.S. combat troops pulled out of Vietnam and returned home to American, where they sometimes received harsh treatment from their fellow Americans.

Today marks Vietnam Veterans Day in Oklahoma, a day set aside to recognize specifically the men and women who served in the controversial war.

Roy Wells of Tulsa was a combat helicopter pilot in Vietnam.

He hopes that because of the disrespect that some Vietnam vets endured, no other future soldiers have to go through the same kind of thing.

"And when they come home, and their tour of duty is over or their enlistment is over, perhaps America can think POSITIVELY of their experiences, as a result of what they did NOT think about ours," Wells said.

According to www.virtualwall.org, 109 people from Tulsa were killed in Vietnam.
