Yes, this is a football state. Oklahoma has always followed the pigskin but now a group of young NBA players in Oklahoma City, led by a former Texas Longhorn no less, have all of our attention . The Oklahoma City Thunder, only two years removed from being just awful on the court have made their way to the NBA Western Conference finals and nearly all of us are paying attention. "For a long time I thought it was just a bandwagon fan coming in but the more I've seen it I think everyone's on this wagon" said Boomertown USA general manager Steve Knight. "Everybody coming in knows how they did, they know what game it is, they know who they are playing they've even quoted scores."

Boomertown is normally a college sports outlet with loads of gear from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Tulsa. But Knight and his employees have been busy creating a section just for Thunder gear and it's flying off the shelves.

Knight said the poplular items are, well, all of them. " Playoff t-shirts are popular, flat brimmed hats are selling real well,  we've got people wanting car flags, magnets, anything they can do to promote the team."

When I asked if he had picked up the Kevin Durant backpack yet he answered "I'm working on it. I did get my Thunder beach towels in today so we're ready for summer."

Oklahoma City may have the team but they don't have the corner on fans. All 77 counties in Oklahoma have been hit with Thunder fever as watch parties and Thunder jerseys pop up in diners and schools across the state. Knight even told us he saw an increase in sales of OKC gear in the 75% range over the last few weeks.

Now all we need is for the guys to handle the Dallas Mavericks and the state of Oklahoma could have a team in it's first ever finals series of a major professional sport. It didn't go well in game one Tuesday night as Dallas thumped the Thunder 121-112 behind Dirk Nowitzki's 48 points. Game two is Wednesday night in  Big D before the teams head to Oklahoma City for games three and four on Saturday and Monday. Stay tuned to KRMG for all the latest on the Thunder every day.
