"I am so insulted. I am so enraged. I'm mad!"

The Project Schoolhouse plan to reduce the number of school buildings in the Tulsa Public Schools system is drawing fire from parents who aren't pleased to know that their neighborhood schools could close by the fall.

Yet, at least one Tulsa woman draws a bead on the plan for what she deems to be a contradiction between the plan to close schools now and the highly touted plan last year to pass a $354-million school bond in Tulsa.

Cris Kurtz from USA Patriots commented on KRMG's Facebook page Wednesday:

"Just ONE YEAR ago this month $354,000,000.00 "Brick & Mortar" school bond issue passed in part because it was promoted to the tax payer, with the tax payers' money to raise the tax payers' taxes. TODAY we need to close schools."

Contacted by KRMG News, Kurtz added, "Seventy-three percent of the 354-million was for building construction and classroom additions. When we turn around a year later and have surplus buildings that need to be closed ... we have low, low attendance we have to close buildings. I am so insulted."

Supporters of the Do The Smart Thing campaign touted may improvements at some of the very same schools that will be closed under some of the Project Schoolhouse proposals.

Under the proposal for the now-passed 2010 school bond, the largest school bond in Oklahoma history, Nimitz Middle School was to receive $3,488,245 in "renovation and energy management/security."

That same Nimitz Middle School is now on the target list for closure under Plan B of the proposed Project Schoolhouse plan.

In response, Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard says he doesn't believe that any of the bond money has been spent at Nimitz and that the school building could still be repurposed at some point.

Dr. Ballard adds, "going to make sure that not a dime will be spent" on schools that will close.
