Washington, D.C. —

College graduates are telling the government they're getting the runaround while struggling to pay student loans.

In seven months, nearly 3,000 complaints came into the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

College graduates trying to get out of debt said they couldn't find the right person to talk with or couldn't figure out exactly how much they owe.

Rohit Chopra pored over the complaints and is telling congress college grads need more help and fewer roadblocks.

“It's important young people with student loans don't get tripped up,” Chopra said.

The government watch dog says graduates' problems mirror homeowners dealing with troubled mortgages.
