TULSA —
For the first time since Feb. 13 of last year, a storm has brought a measurable snowfall to Tulsa.
As of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service said the official snowfall total at Tulsa International Airport was 3.1 inches.
More snow and rain will continue to fall in the area and the NWS is calling for between 1/4 and 1/2 inch of ice to form overnight in some areas.
That could create an extremely hazardous drive for morning commuters on Thursday.
Wednesday morning was bad enough with crashes all over town.
None of those crashes proved fatal in Tulsa, but one person died in Grady County after losing control on a slushy highway.
Tulsa police shut down S. Yale Ave. from E. 81st to E. 91st for more than an hour late Wednesday morning because several cars had slid off the narrow, winding road near Signal Hill.
TPD was also on "Slick Streets," its code name for limited accident response due to the high number of collisions.
During an activation of "Slick Streets," police respond only to injury crashes.
