State Medical Examiner to determine inmate's cause of death

Inmate dies
52-year-old Gwendolyn Kaye Young was sentenced to a year in jail.

By Michael Purdy

Tulsa, Okla. —

Tulsa deputies say an inmate at the Tulsa County Jail died Friday morning.

A detention officer noticed 52-year-old Gwendolyn Kaye Young was "in distress" and called for emergency medical help. Deputies say the inmate was then transported to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead just after 11 a.m.

The State Medical Examiner will investigate the cause of death.  Deputies say Young appeared to die from natural causes.

Court records show Young was sentenced in October to a year in jail for threatening a public official.
