State lawmakers wants better 'Black Friday' deals for Oklahoma consumers

Black Friday 2011

Oklahoma City, Okla. —

If you're going to stand out in the cold on Black Friday, we know you want the best shopping deal.

And you can get some pretty good deals in Oklahoma, but in some cases, the deals aren’t nearly as good as other places around the country.

Right now, Oklahoma state law says retailers have to charge at least 6-percent more for a product than what they paid for it.

State Senator Dan Holt wants to change that and let stores offer what's known as "loss-leaders"... to entice buyers, like many place around the country do...

“This is having a real-world effect on the options that our consumers enjoy, and of course as everybody knows, Oklahomans and Americans in general are loving their Black Friday sales, their back-to-school sales, and the loss-leaders that they enjoy throughout the year, all of which are illegal in the State of Oklahoma,” Holt says.

Senate Bill 550 would change that for all products, except for fuel and prescription drugs.
